Our Values:

  • We believe in equitable and timely access to proven evidence-based non-operative conservative and surgical treatment for all children and Canadian patients with Scoliosis and spinal deformities.
  • We believe Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis (AIS) is a progressive genetic disease (or disorder) and that AIS has proven preventative disease burden.
  • We believe primary health care providers should be educated and trained to detect scoliosis and spinal deformities in children and screen for AIS as an annual health check to benefit children's health.
  • We know that not screening for early-detection of Scoliosis can negatively impact children’s health outcomes and delays to spinal surgery for AIS are harmful to children and adds to the stress on patients and families and increases healthcare costs.
  • We support the Position Statement for the Early Detection of Idiopathic Scoliosis in Adolescents by the SRS/AAOS/POSNA/AAP .
  • We follow the guidelines of the highly respected International Scoliosis Research Society SRS, and the International Society on Scoliosis Orthopaedic and Rehabilitation Treatment SOSORT and current high-level scientific evidence and share the core values of the Canadian Spine Society.
  • We believe in Canada's universal medicare system where health care is a human right and medical care is based on need, not the ability to pay.
  • We believe in patient-centred care and educating parents and patients to make shared informed decisions.

"It's high time - Scoliosis Screening - becomes an annual health check in Canada and - Scoliosis School Screening - is reinstated. This is sound evidence-based preventative health care practice;

Let's ensure Canadian kids stay Healthy."
