The Canadian Scoliosis Screening Coalition

Contact: CSSC@scoliosiscanada.ca

Our Mission:

  • Our primary mission is to promote and establish early detection of Scoliosis (AIS) through Screening for all Canadian children to prevent progressive spinal deformity through strategic and educational initiatives that shape Canadian Federal and Provincial public health-care policy.
  • To advocate for public health funding to cover the cost of approved digital screening devices, prescribed Orthotic braces and scoliosis-specific Schroth physiotherapy and associated equipment for children as necessary growth-sensitive medical treatments.
  • To educate policy makers, health-care professionals, professional medical associations and teaching institutions.
  • To raise awareness about Scoliosis to the public, the media, public officials and policy makers and inform them of the issues of inequities, gaps in care, regional disparities, the harms of long wait times on time-sensitive, growth-dependent treatments and hardships facing Scoliosis patients and families.
  • To advocate for necessary increased resources for healthcare professionals for equitable health care for paediatric Scoliosis patients.
  • To advocate for wrap-around supportive services of counselling and pain management that children require.
  • To promote and advocate research to improve the lives of Scoliosis patients.

"It's high time - Scoliosis Screening - becomes an annual health check in Canada and - Scoliosis School Screening - is reinstated. This is sound evidence-based preventative health care practice;

Let's ensure Canadian kids stay Healthy."
